10 Good Things for April
I’m sitting here at my my kitchen table with a terrible cold and surrounded by visa paperwork so I couldn’t think of a better pick-me-up than a cup of hot tea and a moment to reflect on what’s been bringing me joy over the last month. And what a month it’s been! In the last four weeks I’ve been to England and back again, had a short trip to Syracuse in Sicily and moved into our new home.
April seems to have gone by so fast that I’ve not even managed to put together my happy list before May has come around! But here it is, 10 good things from April!
Yoga girl playlist of the month on Spotify
For those of you who haven’t heard of Rachel Brathen, she’s an insta-famous yogi who also happens to put together an amazing playlist. I love her relaxing tune choices for when I’m lounging around the house, need to chill out or doing some at-home yoga myself. I’ve been listening to her playlist on loop the last few weeks, especially whilst travelling.
2. Lancôme ‘Confort Galatee’ Cleansing Milk
When my skin is in trouble I always trust the French beauty brands to sort it out and this cleanser from Lancôme has been amazing for my dry sensitive skin which has NOT enjoyed the cold English weather and two long-haul flights. Yes it’s a little pricey but it works amazingly well and leaves my skin so moisturised at the end of the day. It also smells lovely!
3. Returning to Instagram
After a six week break, it’s been so fun to return to the gram. It was wonderful to have a digital detox, but I did miss the creative outlet it gives me, and it was nice to catch up on all my favourite feeds!
4. Audible audiobooks
I love reading but can’t seem to sit still long enough at the moment to really get engrossed, so instead I’ve been downloading them to my phone. I binge-listened to Lauren Graham’s biography Talking as fast as I can on the plane (all five hours of it) and I’ve also been enjoying Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens which was top of my 2019 reading list.
5. Matalan dungarees
I saw Hannah Gale raving about these dungas, and as we have a fairly similar body shape I decided to get a pair myself. And oh my gosh I am so glad I did! They were so cheap, soooo comfy, go with everything and very flattering on my curvy frame. Naturally my boyfriend hates them, but otherwise I’ve had a lot of compliments on how nice they are!
6. Turning twenty-eight in England
I spent my birthday in London where my friends threw me a surprise early hen party combined with some birthday drinks and it was so lovely to see them after 8 months in Perth. I also turned 28, and as it’s the year of our new home, wedding and honeymoon have a feeling it’s going to be a good one!
7. Chopped kale salad with lemon tahini dressing
I don’t normally go crazy for kale but this recipe from shelikesfood.com is so delicious, it’s all I want to eat! The tahini dressing is so yummy and I’ve found it all goes really nicely with roast chicken to make a healthy and easy dinner. The best part is it keeps really well, so you can batch cook (or assemble) for the week.
8. Trying a capsule wardrobe
I’ve wanted to try a capsule wardrobe for quite some time, but I haven’t had the time or energy to really plan it and invest in those key pieces that you really need. But as a trial I decided to pack a holiday capsule for my trip to Italy and I have to say it was SO enjoyable to not have to make decisions about what to wear. It was a fun exercise in minimising my clothes and it went so well I’ve been inspired to start planning a winter capsule for the coming months. As we are moving House it seems like the perfect opportunity to streamline my wardrobe!
9. Call my Agent’ on Netflix
This French comedy series about a talent agency in Paris has me completely hooked- I’ve almost finished all 3 seasons in a mere couple of weeks.
And last but not least…
10. Buying our new house.
It’s been a whirlwind few months but after much financial paperwork, bank appointments and a last minute mortgage disaster, we finally got the keys to our first house together. It’s a little 3 bed bungalow with a pretty garden and even though it needs a little work, we couldn’t be happier with it. Stay tuned for house updates on my Instagram!
